Sheet Mask, Yacht Party & 3am Dessert Vlog!April 30, 2015

Sometimes my regular uploads take a long time (I try to give you guys my best), but I really want us to see more of each other, so vlogs are coming!

I’ve been dabbling in Korean skincare, and trying products I’ve never heard of like sheet masks and essence. I showed the sheet mask in the video (which is SO amazing) and I will show the rest in upcoming videos once I’m sure they’re worth the hype!
Cremalab Herb Tea Mask:

I had my morning shake which is the Dr.Gaye Super Shake. I’ve mentioned this shake in videos before, they’re not sponsoring me but they’re great people who actually care about ingredients and sustainability. I feel like most shakes out there are just trying to cash in on a trend, so these guys are my go-to if I want to buy my morning shake. It makes me feel so good and wakes me up (thanks to the cacao and maca powder).
Dr. Gaye Super Shake:

I went out and bought a Victoria’s Secret bra, a new variety that has a very soft, gel-like substance in the cup. It’s not super padded, but it does add a little oomph. I bought it because during certain parts of the month I get really sensitive and some bras can irritate me, so I got the softest thing I could find :P.

I got home and made veggies for the boys. Their sides were sautéed button and king oyster mushrooms, cooked in a bit of olive oil with added liquid tamari, green onion, cracked black pepper and toasted sesame oil. As well as caprese salads made with  tomatoes, bocconcini, basil, quality olive oil, salt, pepper, and balsamic reduction.

Dessert was made as follows: Mango Coconut Chia Parfait:
1. Preheat oven at 350 degrees
2. Pour coconut milk (or yogurt) and almond milk in a glass, I do a 50/50 ratio
3. Sweeten with a bit of maple syrup, I like to add a dash of vanilla extract and sometimes 1/8 tsp of salt
4. Add a heaping tablespoon or two of chia seeds to the glass, stir
5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. You can do it overnight as well!
6. Toast slivered almonds for 6-8 minutes
7. Put toasted almonds, mangos and strawberries on top of the chia pudding and enjoy!

I also had soup dumplings, Asian herbal soup, Korean rice wine and a cappucino throughout the day, and little things like homemade biscuits and granola bars!

Hope you enjoyed this vlog guys! Much love to you!

Being yourself is embarrassing… at firstApril 25, 2015

Being honest and going “all in” is scary. You’re opening your true (and often vulnerable) self up to all sorts of reactions. But it’s a great way to flesh yourself out as a person and make a real connection. In order to speak well, do spoken word poetry well, or even get to know yourself, you’ve got to be present and know it will be awkward and unrefined at first, but that’s okay. If you want to get good at anything, you’ve got to do it a lot. Sometimes people ask me how I am confident, and I’m definitely a work in progress but I’d say this is my answer.

One time I asked my brother how he is such an incredible writer, and he said, “You’re going to suck for a LONG time”. It’s embarrassing to put a pen to paper and not know how to articulate your emotions at first, but you’ve got to take yourself seriously, try and keep trying.

P.S. I was actually trying so hard to sing in the video hahaha. Terry and I were crying during this edit. I’ve been singing for a month. It’s one of the most freeing things I’ve been privileged to suck at. Everyone should try karaoke at least once.

Spring Haul of Awesome Sh*T!April 13, 2015

This is a haul showing some unique pieces I found, often at a cheaper dupe price! I thought I’d mention here that very cheap fashion is great because it makes everything affordable, but at the same time, the quality isn’t always the best. Sometimes I feel like I’m buying things just to wear them a few times before they fall apart, which quite frankly is pretty wasteful. It was my first time shopping at Sheinside, and while I am happy with the items that I showed, a lot of the other items I got were quite disappointing, so beware and read reviews! I hope to be able to invest in pieces that last in the future, but for now I can only splurge on SOME things :P. If you guys know of any reasonably-priced stores that have great quality items, I would love to hear about them in the Youtube comments! Much love to you! (more…)

A Nobody Visits New YorkApril 6, 2015

I called this video “A Nobody Visits New York” because it’s reflective of how the NY trip made me feel, which is not a bad thing at all. My channel is a niche little safe-zone, and is all about sharing stories, things I like, and proving that being real (and honest about one’s flaws and biases) is a great way to grow. The reason why I haven’t lost any love for this is because of how much time I spend conversing and connecting with you guys, I really feel like we’re friends. I’m here because it’s a passion, there really isn’t as much money in being a Youtuber as people seem to think there is, especially if you’re not up in the millions and taking tons of sponsorships. So many people dream of being “somebody” and being perfect, and neither of those things are ever on my radar when I’m making videos and responding to you. The impact that you guys have had on me never gets old, and I’m so incredibly grateful for this community we’ve built and the conversations we have. Lately I’ve been waking up with a spring in my step because I’ve discovered so many new things about myself through this. I feel like there’s actually a place where I belong, I hope this channel can be that place for you too.

To Pimp a ButterflyMarch 20, 2015

To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar

To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar came out a few days ago, and Terry pretty much lost his shit. It is the only thing we’ve been listening to, and it has made me feel so many things I’ve never felt before. It’s been too long since I was exposed to music that is so layered and tackles so many difficult social issues with thoughtful ease. On my first listen, I took many of the messages at face value and drew multiple conclusions. On the second listen, I paid closer attention to the lyrics, the double entendres, imagery and symbolism, and found that my second set of conclusions contradicted the first set. Kendrick is making real art, and there is nothing in this world that I find more inspiring than getting my hands on something like this and dissecting every piece of it. I know that sharing a hip hop album isn’t typically what I do here, and this album is full of lyrics that are very prone to be taken the wrong way depending on the listener. But I truly believe the message behind this album is a positive one. The self-awareness and responsibility he displays for all of his thoughts and actions continues to inspire me. I am overwhelmed by the beauty, honesty and authenticity. It’s so inspiring to see that someone out there is being real and killing it. I highly recommend that you guys give this one a thoughtful listen, the beats alone are worth hearing and enjoying if you take nothing else from it.

Check out Anthony Fantano’s review of the album for a little extra context and his perspective on the whole thing!

Simple Night RoutineMarch 20, 2015

Many moons have passed since my last night routine, and it’s a lot more simplified now. I enjoy watching/making these and I hope you enjoy this video!

Things All Girls Should KnowMarch 14, 2015

AllGirls-Thumb2-LINKIf you don’t stand for something then you’ll fall for anything! These are things that I think every girl should hear and consider.

My Friend & I Walk into a Bar (Rant)March 8, 2015

Rant-Entitledcreepers-thumb-LINKI went to a bar to wet my whistle with a couple of bowls of loudmouth soup, and things didn’t go so well.

I do not like flattery when it’s used as a means to an end. When the message is “I’m sexually attracted to you, and you should be flattered”, I’m not interested in hearing it. I prefer real, open-minded conversations over flattery and free drinks. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate when people genuinely mean well and expect nothing in return, or when the compliment is related to a topic that we’re both interested in, like makeup. “Your eyeliner is on point today”, means a lot more to me than shallow offerings coupled with expectations. No one is solely around for anyone else’s enjoyment, we should treat each other like individuals with thoughts, interests and feelings. I think we would bump into a lot less entitled assholes that way.

This is kind of a scary thing to talk about because a lot of people firmly believe that “you’re beautiful” is the best compliment a woman can get, and I probably sound stuck up for not wanting to hear it and for being annoyed by free drinks. In actuality, I just hate when seemingly kind actions are laced with expectation or merely objectify the recipient. I also think that buying drinks for randoms should be an outdated practice. Strangers should stop giving/expecting freebies and instead pay for their own vices and their own impaired judgment.

Shit happens because some people are jerks, but most people aren’t. Don’t let an encounter with an asshat keep you from leaving the house and being social. The world yearns for you in all of your goodness and glory.

1. I don’t let strangers buy me drinks because I don’t like feeling like I owe a stranger something, that’s no good way to start a relationship. If someone wants to get to know me, they can talk to me. Impairing my judgment in the form of free drinks and flattery won’t impress me as much as you trusting in your conversational skills.

2. I tend to only go to clubs if we have a private table. It’s sad that it has to come to this because tables are expensive and exclusive, but I don’t like dealing with people dancing up on me while I’m trying to have fun. I like the option of having a table to go to when the dance-floor is a bit much for the moment.

3. I like to frequent “hipster pubs”, I have no idea what else to call them and I’m cringing while typing this. But they’re little hot spots that young locals like to frequent who appreciate good alternative music and good beer. I find that the attitude toward women at those places tends to be more enlightened than at mainstream dance clubs. When people get together based on an interest other than hopefully getting lucky, it tends to go a lot better.

I dislike being approached randomly on the street, but I don’t mind being approached in social situations like a party, a bar, an event, or a classroom. I really enjoy having conversations with no pressure. Flattering me pressures me to give you a certain response, I prefer situations where you introduce yourself, share your opinion about what ever is going on and ask for mine, then the conversation naturally just blossoms on its own if it’s a good fit. Please don’t give up on approaching each other!

A Juicy Beauty TipMarch 3, 2015

JuiceBeauty-THUMBlinkThought I’d share an everyday tip that I took for granted but has been a great adjustment for me in terms of skin clarity and how I feel! A juicy tip from a former juice addict 😛

I used to be one of those people who was always drinking juice because it’s more interesting than water (blue Kool-Aid was my jam). Preferring blended juices to sugar water has been a great change for me since I don’t need the excess sugar in my diet. Hopefully this will help some of you guys out as well! I personally don’t think you should drink more sugar than you could eat in its whole food form, and blending my juices has helped me not over-consume sugar. (more…)
